Shows

No new news as of right now but I have been to a couple of really good shows that I think I should get to reviewing. I have tickets for dillinger escape plan in early feb and moving units, autolux, secret machines in early march.  A few saturdays ago I saw japanese hardcore band "envy" at the knitting factory along with, Malady (ex- pg 99, city of caterpillar) Haram and Panthers.  The following day was Underoath and The Chariot at the downtown. It's been good past few weeks for shows. Hopfully more shall come up in the meantime I will get to adding a shows review page.

CMJ 2004

One of my favorite weeks of the entire year. I love cmj time because of all the wonderful shows that take place during this week. It's hard for me to go since I am in high school / age restrictions but when I can make it to one of these shows, it ends up being an amazing time. Last year I was forunate enough to see the barsuk showcase during cmj week at irving plaza with bands such as: death cab for cutie, nada surf and the long winters. I was also forunate enough to see the Mars volta at roseland ballroom with enon , the rapture and recover. This week is especially good for those students attending college's in NYC or if you just are in NY for the week take advantage of some of these shows. Most of the shows do not require the cmj badge and tickets can be purchased seperatly.

So if you are in the NYC area here are some shows to keep and eye out for:

10/14 Domino Records cmj showcase (Irving Plaza)

Featuring Clinic
w/ Sons and Daughters; Juana Molina; Adem

10/15 Touch and Go/ Dim Mak cmj showcase

TV on the Radio with Pinback; Battles; Sally Timms; Whirlwind Heat; Tara Jane O'Neil

10/16 Jimmy eat world at the warsaw in brooklyn

CMJ Music Marathon

Polyvinyl Records:

Saturday Looks Good To Me,Aloha,Bishop Allen,Decibully,Volcano, I'm Still Excited, ZZZZ, Ida

at the northsix in brooklyn

and so many more to check out.

Travis Morrison is the shit. Fo shizzle. (7/01/04)

I have one, just one, very important things to tell all you wonderful readers of dti. Here it is:

  1. Travis Morrison is like…woah. I don’t care who you or what you are or anything at all, if you haven’t heard his Ludacris cover, you have not lived. Hop on over to www.travismorrison.com and download it now. And if you can, catch him on his “appetizer tour.” He’s going to do mostly covers and a few of his own stuff [Prince, LL Cool J, Christina Aguilera, etc]. Travis’ll be back, touring the country, with a full band in the fall. Dude, I cannot wait. Travis’ solo dates are:

F July 2, Baltimore, MD: Talking Head (w/Roman from Oranges Band, Aquarium)
Su July 4, Arlington, VA: The Galaxy Hut
M July 5, Tallahassee, FL: Beta Bar
(w/Iron & Wine)
Tu July 6, Orlando, FL: Social
(w/Iron & Wine)
W July 7, Tampa Bay, FL:
Orpheum
(w/Iron & Wine)
M July 12, Annapolis, MD: Acme

And you Floridian rockers, you all had better be at these shows, if not for Travis, for the exquisite Iron and Wine.

*For those not in the know [HOW CAN YOU NOT BE IN THE KNOW?], Travis Morrison is (okay, was, but I’m in denial) the lead vocals/guitar/keyboards and then some for the Dismemberment Plan. And if you don’t know who the Dismemberment Plan is, email me and I’ll see what I can do about getting you a “Welcome to Plan Land” kit [comes with an introductory Plan CD].

More news later, when it happens.

Britain, indie rock, skinny musicians.yum.

So this is my sob story: Franz Ferdinand is in town (my town = Seattle) next Wednesday but its a 21+ show AGAIN. Yup, they were here last April and I couldnt go to that show either. Why does this happen to me? How am I ever going to see them if they keep playing these 21+ shows. Humph. As you can tell, the little skinny, button-down shirt wearing, British boys of Franz Ferdinand have a very special spot in my heart. Theyre bouncy, danceable and oh-so catchy. I mean, when Alexander Kapranos sings, you can feel my lips undress your eyes, oh my goodness, I swear your heart will flip over a few hundred times. Go pick up their debut self-titled album. I swear you wont regret it.

Speaking of Franz Ferdinand, Im going to make the logical, most popular transition to The Killers. The Killers are that exciting new band from Las Vegas and theyre being compared to Franz Ferdinand a lot these days (Franz tops them for sure). Other than the fact that Britain loves these two bands, its the similar melodies patterns and over all catchiness. The Killers are from Las Vegas, however. Dont hold it against them, theyll still rock your socks off. Their debut album, Hot Fuss (what a name), comes out June 15 in the States (the UK gets it 8 days before us). The Killers are also, in tour, so be sure to check them out.
